Hello and Welcome to my website! My name is Cindy Skelton and I am The Quilting Engineer. The journey to this stage of my life has consisted of lots of hard work, support from my wonderful family and fun! My “About Me” page has a few specifics, but now I would like to share with you a little more about “Who is The Quilting Engineer?”
This blog is a genuine “first” for me – so bear with me as I learn the “mechanics” of blog-writing (no pun intended – I’m a mechanical engineer!) As a former high school teacher and long time quilter, I continuously look for new techniques, tools and things to learn. My intent is to pass that on to you and continue to educate both you and me.
Some quick things about me – I’m the daughter of a WWII Marine, the mother of 3 grown sons and the grandmother of 2 wonderful children. Preparing to graduate high school (back in 1973) I wanted to be a math teacher, but went into engineering instead. General Motors Institute not only allowed me to earn a degree in engineering, but also provided a unique school/work experience with General Motors Research Laboratories. Frankly, this 5 year educational experience built on a pretty good foundation by including problem solving, organization and efficiency skills.
So, after a short career in engineering and a lifetime career as wife and mother, I decided at age 45 to go back to college and earn a teaching certificate in secondary education. After 2 years of classes and student teaching (a lot of my science and math course work from both my Bachelor and Master degrees transferred), I started teaching high school Physics, Robotics and Astronomy. Except for raising my sons and being “grandma” to the 2 little ones, that was the most rewarding and fun job I have ever had!
Ok, now you know a little bit more about The Quilting Engineer – this website and online store means that I am retired from teaching high school, but still learning and having fun! Thank you for taking the time to check out my website and read this biography – let’s keep discovering and learning together!
